Beyond Tolerance: A Model for a Just Multicultural Society
Main Article Content
Abstract
The main thesis of this paper is that in multicultural societies where there are social, economic and material inequalities between peoples or between cultures, if the State is committed to a just society, then it has the obligation of establishing compensatory policies and differential assignment of resources on behalf of those peoples or cultures in disadvantage. The same applies to international organizations. This is justified as a matter of social justice. The relevant concept of social justice is thus discussed, based on the idea of satisfaction of all the basic needs of all members of that society.
