Husserl and Villoro: Reflections on Common Goods, Wisdom, Science, and the Meaning of Philosophy for Life

Abstract

This article approaches central aspects of Luis Villoro’s thought that are a consequence of his critical relation to Edmund Husserl’s transcendental phenomenology. Some of them are his inquiries into the meaning of philosophical reflection in the social and vital contexts in which it is carried out, as well into the task of philosophy itself, the topics that it cannot avoid addressing and the kind of knowledge to which it should strive. In the final part, it is suggested that the perspectives opened with the comparative study of these two thinkers are important to reclaim the critical task of philosophy in relation to the reality in which it unfolds and is cultivated.
