Nation and Nationalism
Main Article Content
Abstract
In this paper I argue for a multicultural idea of nation, starting from a criticism of Ulises Moulines’ article on nationalism (Diánoia no. 46, 2001). The idea of nation and nation-state that I sustain is more compatible with the cultural and political realities of Latin America and, especially, of Mexico. Instead of identifying ethnic group with nation, as professor Moulines does, I propose a concept of nation built on political and cultural processes in civil society. This concept of nation is more appropiate for democracy in a multicultural society, such as Mexico.
