Pragmatism, Reformist and Radical. A Response to Susan Haack's "Pragmatism, Old and New"

Abstract
In her recent paper published in Diánoia, Susan Haack claims for a division between radical pragmatism and reformist pragmatism. My main purpose is to criticize her lack of historical view and the fact that she overestimates epistemological questions. I emphasize some radical impulses in James and Dewey, explaining why Haack is unjustified in regarding them as reformists. Since Haack also associates radical pragmatism of the worst type with Richard Rorty, I also try to make clear why, no matter how radical Rorty can be considered in relation to epistemological topics, he will always turn out to be a convinced moderate in political terms. To some extent, the question is: Do epistemological theories mark any difference in cultural debates?
