Abstract

This article presents the contemporary discussion about communitarianism. Later it makes three criticisms of "integrational communitarianism" in agreement with Sheila Benhabib's distinction. This kind of communitarianism develops a political proposal as alternative to the traditional foundation of the liberal rule of law. This proposal includes a new politicizing of the State based on a policy of loyalty, service, civility; tolerance, and participatory politics. The criticisms focus on the role that the community, the contingent, the context, and the "common good" play in this political proposal.
